10 essential first time triathlon tips to get you ready for RDJ Dublin City Triathlon!

Embarking on your first triathlon can be both exciting and daunting. To help you hit the ground running (literally!), here are ten essential first time tips to ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience at RDJ Dublin City Triathlon.

1. Start with a plan

Create a training plan that incorporates swimming, cycling, and running. Consistency is key, so set realistic goals and gradually increase your intensity to build endurance without risking injury. There are many plans out there, find one that is flexible and works with your time and schedule.

2. Gear up

3. Master transitions

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and start too fast. Maintain a steady pace throughout each segment that you have practiced, to conserve energy, and ensure a strong happy finish!

8. Mind the rules!

Triathlons have specific rules, such as where to mount your bike, fastening your helmet and litter zones for your gels. Familiarise yourself with these rules to avoid embarrassing penalties that will cost you time!

9. Mentally prepare

Multisport is as much a mental challenge as a physical one. Stay positive, visualise your race, and break it into manageable segments to maintain focus and motivation, especially for longer distances or if there are laps involved.

10. Enjoy it!

Your first triathlon is a memorable milestone. Embrace the journey, celebrate your progress and soak in the camaraderie and atmosphere. Whether you’re aiming to win your age group or simply finish, enjoy every moment and bask in the smugness!
